MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Spinal diseases are a debilitating burden on the most productive demographic of our population – the bread winners of many a family. These conditions often mean, at the very least, a long interruption in the working life of a person at the peak of a career. With the burgeoning numbers of patients suffering from these conditions, public institutions are struggling to treat them quickly and effectively. Add to this the fact that surgical treatment is prohibitively expensive and the delays compound the damage and considerably delay recovery of patients.

Our free spine surgical programme is aimed at alleviating the pain of needy patients and taking some of the pressure off public healthcare systems in the process. Sita Bhateja Speciality Hospital waives all charges on the hospitalisation and treatment. The surgeons operate for free and contributions received by our charity go towards meeting costs of consumables, medicines and implants making the surgery completely free – a one of its kind initiative.

Last year, more than 20 patients received state-of-the-art surgical treatment for free as part of this initiative.

In order to scale things up, we need your help.

Every year, we raise funds through cycling (and other activities) for our charitable foundation and this year we are taking it to the next level.

But, we don’t believe in just asking for your money to take a leisurely stroll (or ride in this case) in the countryside. Your hard-earned money is going to be earned through blood sweat and tears!

This is how.

Attracting cyclists from all over the world, the Tour Of Nilgiris (TFN) is India’s biggest cycling event spanning 8 days and 900 kms across three states – Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Ker ala. The terrain is among the most breathtaking in the world. And also arguably also among the most excruciating.

Day 4 for example is the famed Kalahatty climb. Rivalling some of the world’s hardest climbs, it is 12 kms long and has over 1200 metres of elevation gain. And this is a day that contains nearly 100 kilometers of riding over and above the climb! Imagine seven days of riding like this and you have some idea of the scale of the challenge.

Well, we have two hardy souls who have been inspired to take on the TfN in name of the needy.

Our Medical Director , Dr Arvind Bhateja will be riding the Tour of the Nilgiris (TfN) in the Masters category. And he is going to be gunning for the podium. That’s right, he will be aiming to finish in the TOP THREE in his category! Incidentally, he is also the lead neurosurgeon who operates on our charity patients free of charge.

Giving back

Vivek Bhateja began his journey to health nearly two years ago now. Last year, he attempted his first TfN and it was creditable effort for somebody who had barely been able to play sports a short while before. More importantly, he raised INR 300,000 for our free spine surgery programme through his efforts. This year, he is back but he has set his sights higher. Much higher!

Both Arvind and Vivek are fuelled by the charitable activities of SITA BHATEJA SPECIALITY HOSPITAL. Their dream is to be able to treat more patients who cannot afford to do so themselves. And their hope is that you will help them do that by supporting their rides.

In order to be able to achieve their individual goals, they have both been training every day for months now. They religiously log their workouts and upload them so you will be able to see the work they are putting into the ride.

We encourage you to log on to our website or follow us on facebook (www.facebook.com/sbshospital) to keep up with their gut-wrenching daily training schedules as they grind away the kilometers in search of that elusive podium position.

If you’re convinced of their cause, and the work they are putting into it, do support their rides by donating any amount you can.

Every little bit goes a long way!
